PREVIEW | SLEAFORD TOWN VS KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE

BACK TO LEAGUE ACTION AFTER A CUP NIGHT TO FORGET

UP NEXT, The miners take a trip to Sleaford in search of a second win in the league as they bid to change their fortunes after an horrendous exit from the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup at the first attempt on Tuesday night. This weekend’s opponent takes the form of Sleaford Town, who are unbeaten in five matches.

After an improved few matches, Kimberley faced Clifton All Whites at the Stag Ground on Tuesday night under the lights. Managers Andy Kuchta and Ant Ward took the opportunity to rest several players and rotate the squad. Kimberley started brightly enough, creating several half chances in the opening few minutes. It was Clifton, however, who created the first chance of note as they saw a shot from twenty yards smash off the crossbar on fourteen minutes. Ten minutes later, Josh Timson had a shot well saved, followed by Tom Smith in the Kimberley goal making a double save just minutes later. Clifton deservedly took the lead minutes before half time. Clifton doubled their lead just four minutes into the second half. A scrappy second half saw a lot of huffing and puffing. Kimberley’s best chance of the match came in the final few minutes as a shot was cleared off the line. A deserved win for Clifton saw them progress to the next round of the cup, while the Miners were left to lick their wounds.

Sleaford’s last match saw them take a trip to Eynesbury Rovers from the Premier Division South. Two goals from Josh Parker saw Sleaford equalise twice and take the match to penalties, With Eynesbury winning on spot kicks. The match was Sleaford’s fifth match in a row unbeaten in normal time.

Kimberley will be looking to get on track in the league in this difficult fixture, while Sleaford will look to continue their current run of good form and climb the table.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

The last time that the two sides met was in February this year at Sleaford. Dan Tuck, Sam Brown and Kole Lambert scored for the miners, while Greg Smith scored a consolation in added time for a 3-1 to Kimberley.

The match at the Stag took place in October, where Sleaford took the points through Jacob Fenton and Dom Kew for a 2-0 win.

A LITTLE ABOUT THE OPPOSITION

Sleaford Town FC was founded in 1923. They joined the Lincolnshire League, where they were generally successful, being a regular top-ten team. In 2003, Town announced plans to seek a higher level of football in the United Counties League. They had their best-ever season in 2003–04, winning the title for the first time in twenty-three years, and gaining promotion to the UCL

After leaving their previous ground, Sleaford played for three seasons at RAF Cranwell, but despite winning the Division One title in 2005–06, they were not allowed promotion until their new Eslaforde Park ground was ready the following season, and they finished runners-up.

The club are currently members of the United Counties League Premier Division, led by manager Paul Ward.

They first entered the FA Cup in season 2008–09, reaching the First Round Qualifying, while in the FA Vase, their best performance has been to reach the Fourth Round in season 2015–16.
