This week, we catch up with Rob Marshall. Rob is a coach with our table topping reserve team.
Hey Rob, Thanks for taking the time to answer these few questions about yourself and your role at the club.
Nickname
It changes depends how much I upset my wife
Briefly explain your role at the club
KMW Reserves Assistant to Matt Ellis.
How long have you been at the club?
Four years
Your history in football
I started with Harrier football club in Hucknall at about 9 years old and remember taking part in the Priory Celtic tournaments 40 years ago. Fast forward and I got roped in to being Matt Ellis’s assistant at Priory Celtic in the YEL and Notts Youth which led to taking our u18 team to KMW u19 and transitioning into the reserves in NSL. Alongside that, Matt and I are part of the Priory Celtic exec committee with Tony Binch (owner of ISET and our team sponsor) and we represented Priory Celtic veterans for a number of years where I was proudly asked to captain the team by the Priory legend John Dexter after Matt retired from playing. Playing football is the only time I have broken my bones, my hands actually, even though I don’t play in goal.
Club supported
Forest because I don’t live in London and support Man Utd (is that still a thing given their form over the past few years?)
It was the first game I went to live and fell in love with it even though it was a 0-0 against QPR. Being at Wembley when we got promoted was something I'll never forget.
Hobbies and interests
Winning on a Saturday afternoon with my team because losing ruins the rest of the weekend trying to figure out what decisions you made that were wrong and how to make it right next time.
Favourite food
Thai
Favourite drink
“Tracksuit Beers” with the team following a game then us all telling our wives it ended up in extra time and penalties every week because we are late.
Favourite film
The Holiday or Love Actually because the number of times I have watched it sat with my wife which is the most important part
Favourite TV show
MOTD
Favourite sport outside of football
Off-road biking, swimming, running, badminton and squash
Sporting hero
I admired Stuart Peace for his energy, accountability and desire to win no matter the opposition
Five dream party guests.
Comedians like Sean Lock, Dara O’Brien, my wife and friends (hopefully that’s more than 5)
Rob has seen the majority of the reserves players come through the under 18's and into adult football at The Stag Ground and is an essential part of Matt's management team.
Thanks Rob
