This week, we catch up with one of our first team coaches, the man who prepares and runs the pre- match warmups, amongst many other things. It's Sefton Garner
Hi Sef, Thanks for joining us and sharing a little about you and your role at the club
Nickname
Sef
Briefly explain your role at the club
I am a coach at the club and work in the background with setting up for game days and preparing equipment for training as well. In game days I help set up the changing room and set up and deliver the pre match warm up. I’m also responsible for making sure the subs are ready to go on the pitch and show the sub board when a sub is made.
How long have you been at the club?
This is my second season.
Your history in football
A member of the Armed Forces I played at a regimental standard and also played for German teams as well. When I left Germany and moved to the UK I was still playing but I extended my reach into coaching.
I did my level 1 coaching and was coaching a team at Stapleford and took them from U 10 up to U16,s. When I passed my Level 2 coaching I took the leap and went to Nottingham Forest Women where I was coaching and managing the U16’s then the Reserves and the development team.
I was at Forest Women for 4 years or so then moved over to Long Eaton Women Development/Reserves team which were playing in the FA Women’s National League. I spent a year and a half doing that and also coached the Long Eaton Women’s first team after a spell at Coalville Women’s.
After my dad passed away which will be two years in January, I almost gave up coaching but Kimberley Miners Welfare came knocking and lifted me back up and hence I am still here this coincided with me passing my UEFA B license as well.
